We have just got back from staying with my Nan for the weekend and it was lovely. We haven’t seen her since Christmas so it was great to spend some time with her. The thing is my Nan likes to feed us, most older people do I think, and although I took meals to cook I knew I would be off plan for some of it which I was fine with, spending time with my Nan is not something I do every weekend and I didn’t want to feel restricted and not ‘allowed’ certain foods. As long as I didn’t go completely off the rails and managed to fit in a work out and some nice walks I was happy to go and relax.
Here is an overview of my weekend and how I fitted the plan in around my visit.
Arriving after lunch I made chicken and mushroom pie from Cycle 4 of the Graduate Plan for all of us. It was a hit with my Nan and it was great to cook her a good meal.
I started the morning with a 25 minute HIIT workout tabata style- this is 20 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest. The flat was warm and I was sweating just after this short workout! After this me, T and my Nan made banana bread from cycle 5 of the Graduate Plan and left it cooking while we walked the dogs. It turned out so well! That was my breakfast once we got back. I’ve portioned it up and frozen the rest for breakfasts this week!
Lunch was a family get together, my sister is recently back from 2 years in New York so drove with my Mum to meet us for lunch. With Toby Carvery planned I knew it was going to be off plan but we had a good walk under our belts so I tucked in! I have to say it beat me and I didn’t even want dessert. Infact I was so full I didn’t eat again until late evening and even then it was only 2 crumpets.
The evening consisted of Scott arriving from work and us all watching The Greatest Dancer, accompanied by Gingerbread matchmakers and Apple pie! 🙈
Today I had a breakfast planned from Cycle 5 but unfortunately was missing the vanilla and lemon cream cheese so had to have a very small amount of butter on my bagel instead! I can’t wait to try this recipe properly tomorrow but what I had certainly filled me up.
After breakfast we went of course to the Pier and seafront. It was a good walk from the car and all round and a long the Pier, Clacton pier is currently being renovated and is one of the biggest piers in Europe! We were given some love rocks by my Nans neighbour and re hid them by the entrance and inside.
On our way out we were treated by T to some a hot donut each, she had £5 and wanted to treat us 😊 Naughty but so nice!
Throw In another walk with the dogs this time accompanied by the play park and we had not much time left before lunch.
My Nan made us gammon steak with peas and green beans for lunch and it was lovely! But, I couldn’t resist a small portion of Apple pie for after!
As soon as we got home I was literally craving healthy food! A protein hot chocolate and some trail mix later and I was back on plan 😄
I had a pecan nut smoothie for tea with a mango sorbet for afters. The smoothie was really tasty and I didn’t need much after our big lunch!
I prepped up some banana bread for the morning and my bagel and filling for lunch at work along with everyone else’s lunches, did 2 loads of washing, emptied the dishwasher and fed the dog- the weekend was officially over 😂
I don’t regret having a few little treats over the weekend and know I will be right back on plan again this week and smash another 5 workouts. I’m not saying go out and treat yourself every day but I’m saying I’m now at a place with my fitness levels and body shape where I feel like I can have a couple of treats and it won’t ruin all my hard work from the past week.
Plus I’m so used to healthier food now I was craving some dark chocolate and nuts by lunchtime today 😂
