7 things that made me happy week 13

1. New wellies day! During the winter I live in my wellies, to walk our dog in, to go to the stables to take T riding in, even just to do the school run in when it’s rain and snow. My lovely wellies have been through a lot with me, and it showed! Over the last couple of months more and more holes have developed until Scott could take my complaining no more and used a recent sale to buy me some more! Now we have the hottest day of the year so far I’m really pleased I have new wellies πŸ˜‚

2. Date night! Wedsnesday evening was lovely and after a healthy dinner of grilled chicken and rice we walked to the local pub and had a drink next to the golf course. I’ve missed sitting in a beer garden relaxing in the sun and am so happy these days may be coming back!

3. Our Ed Sheeran tickets arrived!! 😁 You know when it gets close to a gig and you start to worry if your tickets will arrive ok? Well no more worrying for me because I think the neighbours in the next street now know they have arrived! Super super excited for this day to come around.

4. Warm weather! Our day off this week was a beauty! 24 degrees and wall to wall blue skies meant to was time to turn the heating off and dust off the shorts! β˜‰After spending the morning stocking up on suncream, school summer dresses and sunhats for T I mowed the lawn and cleaned the fire place out ready for Summer! We had lunch in the garden and it really felt like summer was on its way!

5. Our tree came into blossom. It’s always this time of year it really starts to feel like warmer weather is on its way when our tree blossoms. It just makes our garden look so pretty and I love the couple of weeks we get of it.

6. We had our first dinner in the garden! It was so nice to eat outside again and we all really enjoyed it.

7. I had friends over for dinner! Friday I had three friends over for pizza and drinks and we had such a fun evening! It’s been ages since I had an evening like that where everyone turns up, everyone is in a great mood and everything just goes to plan! After a few people people letting me down at the last minute for a night out last year for a little celebration meal I had felt disheartened and haven’t really tried to arrange much with more than 1 or 2 people since. Last night reminded me why it is good to have friends and it really was good for my soul.

I hope you have all had a great week and I would love to hear what you have got upto that made you happy!

7 things that made me happy week 11

So this week hasn’t been my happiest because I haven’t had my girl home, but I think looking back at the little things will make me realise that it’s not been all bad and there are still things worth appreciating even when you are missing your little person.

1. A sunny after work walk with Poppy. Tuesday was one of those days, no one wanted to be back at work after the Easter bank holidays and it was crazy busy with a load of extra work thrown in for good measure. Things weren’t as I was expecting when I got into work which didn’t set me up in the best mood and the happiest I was all day was when I stepped foot out of that building at 5pm. I don’t hate the place but sometimes it’s like that for everyone right? Me and Poppy just took off and walked round the field for a little while making the most of the sunshine while Scott was on a run. It was so great to be outdoors and I could literally feel the stress blowing away with the wind.

2. Progress pictures. No I’m not about to post them on here but I have been taking them every month since January when I started working out again. Progress for me is motivation, when I can see a difference I am so much more likely to continue working out. This month I really saw a difference and it felt good! Gone are the Christmas inches and there are now clear lines running down my abs! This has spurred me on even more and I’ve worked out 3 times again this week even without my little workout buddy.

3. My squat challenge. How can squats make you happy? Well because a few months ago I really wasn’t very good at them, then I got to doing them with T and improved slightly. Now I’ve set myself a challenge to do one more every day in April starting on 30 and I’m so far really enjoying it! I’m now up to 35 and still feeling good. Scott is doing the same with press ups so we are both encouraging each other and reminding the other one to do it which is also great motivation. Here’s to still feeling happy about it next week! πŸ˜‚

4. Being implusive. So yesterday I worked and when I came out I was meant to be going food shopping but when I rang Scott to check if he wanted anything he was down at our local country park with his parents taking Poppy for a walk round to see the floods. It was a beautiful day down there and I was so jealous that I decided the food shopping could wait a day and came home, got changed and speed walked down to meet them! It was a lovely 2 mile walk and was nice to chat with both of them in turn while walking along, sometimes things can be more than a little chaotic when all the family are at their house so it’s not often we get to chat like that and it was way more fun than food shopping!

5. My beautiful flowers. Monday my best friend came round to see me and thought I sounded a little fed up on my blog so bought me a gorgeous bunch of flowers and a little bottle of prosecco ❀ They have come out and now look stunning and every time I look at them I think of her, Thank you Em xx

6. Scott made the 20 mile mark. My husband is training for a marathon and yesterday hit his longest run so far at 20 miles. I was so happy for him as he’s had a tough week with flooding everywhere stopping him from going too far and injuries that keep rearing their heads so it was touch and go if he would even run yesterday but he did and I’m so pleased he’s that one step further in his training.

7. T had a fantastic pony day. So today T came home!! 😁 Well for all of 20 minutes before we took her over the road to the stables where we left her until 4pm! No we didn’t abandon her to the horses, not that she would mind one bit if we did, but she had booked on an Outdoor Adventure day with a friend who rides in her lesson. She has done 3 pony days before but this was the first Outdoor Adventure one and her first this year. It’s no secret horse riding isn’t a cheap hobby so we tend to wait until the warmer weather comes before we start these not just because she will enjoy it more when it’s not -9 out there but also because we can usually stretch to one by around the Easter holidays. So after dropping her off and getting this one picture of the girls grooming the ponies she tells me she rode a 2 hour hack before more grooming, lunch, feeding the horses, a lesson in the school which was more of a fun games lesson really, more grooming and tacking up ponies for lessons! She had a great time and was so pleased with everything she had done when she came home which makes spending another day without her totally worthwhile 😊

That’s it, there are my 7, I would love to hear what has made you happy this week, however big or small!

7 things that made me happy week 9!

1. Hiding love rocks with these two. Sunday was bitter cold, There was snow on the ground and after playing inside for a few hours these two were desperate to walk Poppy so off we went and hid a few love rocks we had collected over the last few weeks. Even though it was freezing the girls had fun hiding the rocks and posting clues online so they could be found.

2. T going off on her first residential super happy and excited. Not only did she go off excited she came back having had a brilliant time! She has memories she will treasure forever and took part in some great outdoor activities along with filming in their little film studio. Apart from being completely shattered she loved it and so I’m so happy she had the chance to do it.

3. Playing monopoly. What’s the best way to cheer yourself up when you are missing your little person? Monopoly of course! Just because Scott beats me every time we play scrabble it doesn’t mean he is going to beat me at this right? Wrong! Turns out I’m no property tycoon and end up winging my way through each round but still losing in a big way! What a giggle though.

4. A mini spa day! Friday my sister in law and I went for a spa treatment at a local spa. We both had vouchers to use and it was such a lovely morning finished by a spot of lunch at the nearby pub it was a perfect way to spend a Friday morning and I would like to do it every Friday please! 😁

5. Finding a bargain body warmer for T. I always like to get T a little present for Easter rather than a really expensive Easter egg and this year in particular I thought she deserved something nice after our 40 acts of kindness are drawing to a close. She’s been after a bodywarmer for a while and after searching around a whole load of shops I finally found one for a bargain price and I’m thrilled to bits with it. I can’t wait to give it to her next Sunday now.

6. Booking in lots of dates with my best friend. Now my best friend, who is probably reading this, is ditzy to say the least. The last two dates we have said we will visit her she has double booked us and cancelled and with her living 1 hour away now we don’t see each other anywhere near as much as we used to. Last night we actually booked in more than one date where we have plans together and with T also which is great as she is T’s godmother and T loves spending time with her. Now I’m not holding out much hope that all of them will happen but I’m hoping for at least 2 out of 3 so fingers crossed! πŸ˜‚

7. A coffee date with a friend. This morning I met up with a friend for coffee at a new Costa near us. It was great to chat and enjoy a vanilla latte for an hour or so and the amount of sugar in the coffee gave me enough energy to come home and walk Poppy for 3 miles! πŸ˜‚

I hope you have all had a great week and I’d love to hear what you have got upto!

7 things week 4

This week started really well but with a little dip in my mood smack bang in the middle I’ve had to work hard to pull myself around, although it might not look like I’m working hard on the outside I promise you I am trying Mr M.

So here are my 7 things that have made me happy this week, it’s weeks like this I need to focus on this list even more!

1. Pancake day! As is tradition in our house we had nothing but pancakes lemon and sugar for dinner on this day and finished up with tummy aches vowing to not eat another pancake for 12 months! I was super proud of the pancakes I managed to flip and only a small amount escaped the pan and was eaten by Poppy!

2. New water bottles! So I am really awful at keeping hydrated, some days I can go all day and only drink about an inch of my water bottle! Recently my work colleagues have been reminding me to drink and I’ve been doing much better but still no where near as good as them. Tuesday Scott came home with a new water bottle and travel mug for us both! There is no way of escaping how much I’ve drank with this bottle and even though it is a lot bigger than my old one I love the design and vow to one day finish the whole thing!

3. Valentines Day– so we did cards Tuesday evening as T isn’t here on a Wednesday and I was so lucky to have not just a handmade card from T and a card from Scott but also a cute little woollen heart she had made for me at holiday club! I got them both a little chocolate cake and decorated the plates with hearts left over from our wedding day. It was a lovely evening.

4. I got 1000 likes on my blog! When I started this blog in Oct 2016 I wondered if anyone would even read it so to think people have pressed that like button 1000 times is really quite something and made me really happy 😊

5. I became a book fairy! So while searching online for a book club or something similar I came across The Book Fairies. They are a worldwide group that spreads the love of reading by leaving free books for people to read and pass on! You simply sign up on their website and order some stickers for your books then share your book drops on social media. My stickers came on Thursday and it made me really excited to start!

6. We started on our 40 Random Acts of Kindness! So far we have donated 2 games to holiday club, left a love rock in the swimming pool changing rooms, left a note on a random car and today I set up the shed library for my street! It’s really felt great to do and T has enjoyed it too, I’m looking forward to seeing how it works with us being back at school and work next week.

7. Flowers from my best friend. Friday night she came to watch T ride then we had a night in and I cooked us chili while we sat and caught up on each other’s lives. She brought me and T flowers to cheer me up after reading my previous post which really made me smile. The card is one T made at a little club we went to with our friends this week, I thought it went well on the window.

8. I know it says 7 but this week there are 8 and hey it’s my blog so I make no apologies πŸ˜‹ Date day– Scott and I went to the cinema to watch the Greatest Showman! Wow what an amazing film! We both loved it from start to finish, the soundtrack is amazing, the storyline, even though at times you can tell what is going to happen it doesn’t matter because it’s a story of how love and friendship is all you need and in the end how everything you need is usually right in front of you. If you haven’t seen it I completely recommend you do because you cannot leave that theatre in a bad mood, it’s just impossible!

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend, thanks for reading,

How would they feel

How would people feel if they knew how I felt inside?

Would they jump right on that phone, get in their car and drive?

If they knew my mind was whirling and at times I just felt lost, would they be the one to help me, no matter what the cost.

If they knew how being lonely had just become the norm, Maybe they would try to get me back on form.

There are people you are close to,people you hardly see, people who make effort with you and people you wish you could see.

But my brain stops me from texting, my fingers they just won’t move, just hoping and waiting maybe they will text me soon.

Then time creeps in and it becomes harder, wondering why no one calls, weekends and days off are spent lonely in these four walls.

And this is how I carry on until some days I break, and send that text I’ve been waiting to send no matter what the fate.

Some days I just wish I was higher, further up the list, then maybe they would call me, before it got to this.

7 things that have made me happy in 7 days

As my posts have been a little up and down this month I decided I wanted to write something uplifting and I’d encourage you to do the same. These are just 7 little things that have made me happy in the last 7 days. When I came up with the idea I decided it didn’t matter if they were big or small or if they happened on the same day, if it made me happy for a moment I want to remember it so here goes! 1. Having a family get together for my neices 8th birthday. We all met at my sister in laws for her birthday tea, her and T wore pretty dresses and played with the new Build a Bear clothes we bought for her and everyone ate chocolate cake, plus there was a family plank challenge where all the kids planked and T and Amber managed 2 minutes! It was a really fun afternoon. 2. After a testing few days at work this week I spent Wednesday evening watching Scott race a timed mile at the local track. It was sooooo cold but luckily he’s quite a fast runner so was in the first heat and did his mile in 5.24 with a great sprint at the end! I was really proud of him having only 3 people out of about 30 come faster than him. Obviously he’s a runner and he’s never happy with his performance and can always find ways in which he could improve next time but to see him doing so well made me happy anyway 😊 3. My Poppy. She really is the most loving, adorable ball of fluff and getting in from work the other day she was simply overjoyed to see me! I know it sounds cheesy but I can’t think of any other way to say how much she brightened my day so I let her jump into my arms and we had a big cuddle. As much as she is a monkey at times I really do love her to bits. 4. Excercise with my girl. So this has been ongoing since the start of January, we have worked out 3 times a week every week and this week after upping the amount we do she finished the workout by saying “yes, best workout ever!” It makes me so happy to see her enjoying excercise this much and boosting her self esteem at the same time. She will always be my beautiful girl but if she starts to think the same of herself after this then it’s all worth it😊 5. Buying lots of healthy and delicious food for my family! It’s no secret January is a toughie, I’m sure it is for most households but with Christmas then Ts birthday straight after and Scott’s son Louis with his 18th in Feb things have been tight. So payday finally came around this week and I spent a small fortune on lots of lovely things to eat and make yesterday! We have still been getting the fruit in but yesterday we made passionfruit yoghurts and T was so happy! Now to cook lots of exciting nutritious meals this week 😁 6. New hair day! January has been an up and down month for me but this boost has come just at the right time. It’s been a good few months since I had anything done with my hair and it has made me feel so good! It’s a treat I worked over time to pay for and I have to say the extra hours were so worth it! It’s not just how I feel when I come out but I also have a really lovely hairdresser that I can chat away to the whole time I’m in there, any woman will tell you a good hairdresser is worth their weight in gold 😁 7. Spending time with good friends. Yesterday I had a friend over for tea and cake and a good chat. We only saw each other the day before while waiting for our girls to have their ballet class but decided it would be nice to do something that isn’t just because we have to be there! We had such a lovely time just relaxing listening to music and eating cake! Then after school I hosted a play date for T and 3 friends while their Mums stayed and chatted with me. They are good friends I just haven’t seen in a while and it was really good to spend time with them. I’d love to hear what has made you happy in the last 7 days, however big or small. Thanks for reading Lou x

Life is better

Life is better when you have people to help you through. We aren’t meant to live life alone, We are social creatures who were given the mental ability to be able to interact with other human beings on complex levels so why struggle on your own?

It’s so easy to look at other people’s lives and think of the differences and reasons you shouldn’t interact but what about looking for reasons you should? When you are feeling negative about life or suffering with low self esteem or aniexty it’s all too easy to sit at home alone and feel like that is the best option . After all why would anyone want to talk to you if you are feeling so low, they are far too busy off doing exciting things to want to spend their time talking to you right?

Wrong! Talking to people makes you feel better, fact. Even if you talk about other things You don’t have to talk about the elephant in the room, your aniexty or low self esteem but just talking and relaxing in the good company of others will make you feel human again. Laughing, enjoying yourself, spending time with people who genuinely care about you is a positive thing and you will benefit from it!

Shutting people out when you are feeling fed up is easy to do, you may feel like your problems are small, unimportant or that others are just not interested but I assure you there is someone out there that is. Whether they listen and give advice or come up with solutions that work around your situation and make you feel better without realising, seeing people is good for the soul.

Friends are friends for a reason, just remember they may have problems, niggles or just general moans they want to get off their chest too and even if they don’t they may do one day so don’t feel like you are a burden, a failure, moaning for no reason or have problems people can’t or won’t help with because spending time with people really does help. Like they say laughter really is the best medicine so laugh, joke, have fun and forget your worries if only for a few hours.

Christmas Update!

So I’ve been a little quiet but it’s been all go around here full of Christmas activities, catch ups and just generally getting ready for the big day!

Here’s a little update on what I’ve been up to;

Christmas date night- this time of year gets a little crazy with friends, family and Scott’s work being really full on so I decided a month or so ago we needed to make time for ourselves just to save the Christmas stress from getting too much. With a meal in and some Bailey’s hot chocolates along with the film Collateral Beauty we had a really relaxing evening by the fire.

Christmas jumper day at school- T had her Christmas dinner and was able to wear her Christmas jumper in, she loves this year’s jumper and I’m sure you can see why!

Thursday was the last ballet lesson before Christmas so we decided to jazz up the ballet bun a little with some Christmas hair accessories!

Friday was a day for cake! Firstly Scott and I took advantage of a couple of hours before he left for work and grabbed a Christmas coffee at Starbucks with a glittery Christmas tree brownie on the side.

Then it was time for a catch up with two friends with tea, Christmas jumpers and mince pies!

The evening saw a Christmas carol concert from T’s school choir at a local farm, although very cold it was so lovely to see them singing all the songs they had been practising 😊 I was very proud of T and the effort she put in, you could see she was really enjoying herself.

When we got home I got a little creative with my advent candle and made us a little table display. I’m planning to add some holly to it in a couple of days but for now I think it looks great.

Today was our first family get together this Christmas, we travelled to my Mums as a few weeks back she unfortunately broke her ankle and so has been unable to drive! With presents, food and a walk for my Mums dog Xena it was a lovely few hours.

This week promises to be just as busy with T finishing school and me work and a few more catch ups scheduled along with wrapping the final few presents ready for a nice relaxing weekend before the madness starts 😊

Have a great week and thanks for reading

Cups of tea and an unexpected visit!

So today I had plans for a quick trip to the shops, a catch up with a friend and a visit to the vets. All of those things happened, the trip to the shops was great because I managed to pick up a Christmas present for T simply because it had Princess Tiana on and it’s so rare to see her on anything so I had to buy it. (T loves that she is also a Disney Princess.)

The vets appointment was ok, poor Poppy seems to have a little lump at the site of her operation which could be either an infection, where her body is reacting to the internal stitches or just hard tissue where it is healing so she is now on antibiotics for a week. Here’s hoping it sorts itself out! For now here is a cute picture I took the other day!

This afternoon I have also been painting conkers orange to look like mini pumpkins! We are having friends round tomorrow and I’m going to let the kids draw pumpkin faces on them, It was an idea I found a couple of weeks ago which I wrote about here so I will post pictures their finished products when they are done!

Then I had a friend round for tea and an overdue catch up which was lovely. We both seemed to have a lot to tell each other and she shared some good news about moving house which was great. Her cousin came to pick her up who I haven’t seen in years and it was so nice to chat to! You know when it’s just easy to talk to someone, there was no awkwardness, No why haven’t you been in touch, what happened to us as friends we simply moved in different directions at the time and there was nothing more to it. We have always kept in touch online so have a fair idea of what each other has been upto along with my friend keeping us both in the loop but today we ended up chatting for over half an hour when she was meant to be not stopping. It was just easy and made me think this is how life should be, It got me thinking about some difficult decisions I made about friendships nearly a year ago now and just reaffirmed that I made the right ones.

Surround yourself with the right people and life can be good, the wrong people can drag you down and really life is too short and has too many worries and stresses for friendships to be one of them!

Who knows if I will see this friend again anytime soon but I know if I do it will be just as easy and comfortable and that’s how it should be

The New Mrs M makes a year!Β

Wow I can’t believe I made a year! When I started this blog it was as an outlet to share my experiences with braces as an adult and to hopefully learn from other people’s journey also. The thing is it’s turned into much more than that! I’ve learned I love to document my life! Sharing experiences, hobbies, days out, trips away, special moments gives me real enjoyment and it’s the lovely comments and likes I get from readers around the world that keeps me writing. I have written about so many things in the last year from my experiences as a step parent to buying our puppy last year. I’ve talked about my love of being married and the happiness it brings to my struggles of trying to progress a career while still being a present parent. I’ve continued to document my experiences with braces and will keep on doing so in the hope that they help others deliberating whether or not to take the plunge or are already on their journey. My new found love of walking/hiking has been a hot topic over the summer months this year culminating in a walking challenge which saw me walk over 80 miles in a month!

This blog has been like a journal at times being the first thing I want to do when I’m going through a tough time and a way to vent my frustration while also sometimes allowing me to see my opinions in a different light.

Reviews of places I’ve been have almost become a part of the experience now and it’s a given to my husband that some of the many photos I take will be specifically for my blog. If I can show someone how great a place was or how dog friendly somewhere can be and they can enjoy it as much as I did then my writing is all worthwhile.

There are plenty of mum blogs out there and I don’t just write about my experiences as a Mum but this has also been a huge part of my blog. Again if I can show someone else what we get up to and they enjoy doing it then why not!

Whatever my chosen topic is I would just like to say thank you to everyone that has taken the time to read my posts, like them and leave a comment. Without your interest I wouldn’t have continued to write and had 2 pieces published, something I would never even have attempted to do before this!

My plan for the future is to keep blogging, sharing my happy times and my sad times too, hopefully helping others with my braces experiences and reviewing everywhere I go!

I hope you’ve enjoyed my journey so far and here’s to the next year!
